MD 140 / Pleasant Valley Road

Brudis & Associates, Inc. (BAI) was responsible for providing professional transportation engineering design services for the development of bid documents for improvements to MD 140 (Taneytown Pike) at Pleasant Valley Road. The project involved full depth pavement widening and resurfacing of MD 140 and Pleasant Valley Road, to provide dedicated left and right turn auxiliary lanes and allow for bicycle “pocket” lanes.

Highway Design: The improvements extended approximately 1300 feet east and west of the intersection. AASHTO required tapers, acceleration/deceleration lengths, and clear zone requirements were utilized during the design. Due to excessive roadway embankment heights (>30 feet) along the existing edge of shoulders, slope stabilization matting and cut slope rounding were required to ensure no slope failures occurred.
