(BAI) was responsible for providing professional civil engineering design, site layout, technical reports, analysis, construction phase services, design reviews and investigation services for the parking lot improvements/expansion at Riverview Elementary School under an on-call civil/structural engineering contract with the Baltimore County Public Schools System. The project scope included:

  • Fast-Track Design Schedule
  • Stormwater Management Design
  • Pedestrian Safety, ADA Evaluation
  • As-Built Site Investigation
  • Site, Grading and Drainage Design
  • Plans, Specifications and Estimate
  • Demolition Plans
  • Erosion/Sediment Control
  • Geotechnical Analysis
  • Site Parking and Traffic Flow
  • County & MDE Regulatory Permitting
  • Topographic Mapping and Surveying
  • Construction Phase Services

Traffic/Civil/Site and Geometric Design:
Utilizing AutoTURN, BAI designed a new bus entrance loop that accommodated the turning requirements of a school bus. The parking stalls were placed such that the school buses could exit the parking lot without needing to back up. The entrance loop was also designed to accommodate up to 15 visitor parking stalls. BAI used traffic simulation models that reflected peak AM/PM demand to provide adequate queuing lengths such that impacts to the adjacent mainline were avoided. To accommodate the additional parking, BAI provided site layout and grading for the development of approximately 50 additional parking spaces on the existing grassy/hill open space.
